Our newest release. It's a single variety cider made from the Yarlington Mill apple: a Bitter-Sweet cider variety that originated in Somerset, England in 1898. A quintessential West-Counties cider apple.
Why "Thrills"?: It was our first time focussing on this variety, our first time using two new bits of equipment, we had a two-day power cut just when we needed cooling and when we tasted the first glass we were delighted. Such a buzz that just "Yarlington Mill" wasn't going to do it justice!
This cider is unfiltered and may contain some sediment.
These apples are hard to find. This is a small release with individually numbered bottles.
750ml. 5% ABV. Vegan. Gluten Free. From 100% fresh apples.
Full Tasting Notes:
Colour: Bright golden colour
Aroma: A fresh and tangy fruit forward cider.
Palate: The nose opens with an immediate burst of charred pineapple and overripe tangerine zest. As it breathes, the traditional "woodsy" character of the apple takes a backseat to a delicate floral note, reminiscent of orange blossom and wildflower honey. A satisfying finish.
What's a Single Variety Cider?
Most ciders blend apples from multiple varieties to achieve the cider-makers desired outcome. Single Variety ciders focus on the distinctive character of a single apple variety. This requires varieties which exhibit a good balance of aroma, sweetness and acidity. Like the wine industry, cidermakers have a little flexibility: up to 15% of the fruit can be other varieties. We've finished the cider with a little Pink Lady to keep this really smashable.
Our Kingston Black is another lovely Single Variety Cider.
It is a good drink, possibly a little drier and more tart than Iam used to however, I have found it to be refreshing over ice on a warm afternoon.
